Michael May

M.A., B.L.S., Dip. Arts.

From New Zealand

With us since June, 2000

My name is Mike, and I am the principal of Antipodean English Language School. I've been teaching English in Hong Kong since 1997, and teaching with Antipodean since 2000.

Moving to Hong Kong was a big step. When I got off the 'plane at Kai Tak airport in June of 1995, I stepped from mid-winter in New Zealand to the heat of summer in Hong Kong. I thought there was a fire burning nearby, the air felt so hot! It took me months to get used to the weather, and the different food, and the language...

There has been a lot to learn about teaching English in Hong Kong, and I guess that this is a learning experience that never ends. Part of my job is to help new teachers at Antipodean learn some of those lessons so that they don't have to make the mistakes I did!

I look forward to seeing you in class!

Liam Wilson

B.A., CELTA

From New Zealand

With us since October, 2017

I'm Liam, and I've been teaching English since 2006. My teaching has not only been in New Zealand, but also in Japan (for four years) and in North America (for three years). I have a lot of experience with test preparation (particularly IELTS and the other Cambridge exams), teacher training, and English for business. I have experience working as an IELTS speaking examiner, and I love sharing my knowledge with my students. I have taught at all levels from university through to kindergarten and everything in between. I once sailed around the world teaching English on a cruise ship!

I love living in Hong Kong, because there's such an interesting mix of different cultures here. I spent two years living in both London and Sydney, and I can find many things here that remind me of those places! I can also find lots of new and interesting things that I haven't seen before, so Hong Kong is a very exciting place to live in. I love hiking and visiting the beach, so this is a convenient spot for me. I am greatly enjoying my time teaching here, as there are lots of students who are highly-motivated and are achieving their goals!

I come from Shanghai. I moved to Hong Kong to study. I graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Master's Degree of Education in Putonghua. I teach a variety of Putonghua and Cantonese courses. I think all my students enjoy my classes and learn a lot. I like to keep the lessons interesting and use contexts that are related to learners' daily lives. I firmly believe that my students make great progress in their learning.

Aaron Brewster

B.A. (English and Creative Writing)

From England

With us since November, 2017

Hi, my name is Aaron Brewster and I have been working as a tutor in Hong Kong for the last seven years. I've had a great experience so far teaching everything from primary to adult classes. I find it satisfying to be involved in the progression and development of my students and being able to see them push for their goals. In turn I feel able to improve and learn more about my role with every class and truly I cannot see myself wanting to be in any other profession.

I was originally born in Hong Kong and I have lived and studied in Australia and the UK. I was fortunate enough to enjoy and be inspired by my degree studying creative writing and literature. The writers and professors I studied under made for a wonderful variety of examples and talents to learn from. I hope to pass on some of the knowledge I gained from them and also the same sense of inspiration I felt studying the language.
