Michael May

M.A., B.L.S., Dip. Arts.

From New Zealand

With us since June, 2000

My name is Mike, and I am the principal of Antipodean English Language School. I've been teaching English in Hong Kong since 1997, and teaching with Antipodean since 2000.

Moving to Hong Kong was a big step. When I got off the 'plane at Kai Tak airport in June of 1995, I stepped from mid-winter in New Zealand to the heat of summer in Hong Kong. I thought there was a fire burning nearby, the air felt so hot! It took me months to get used to the weather, and the different food, and the language...

There has been a lot to learn about teaching English in Hong Kong, and I guess that this is a learning experience that never ends. Part of my job is to help new teachers at Antipodean learn some of those lessons so that they don't have to make the mistakes I did!

I look forward to seeing you in class!

Wayne Smith

B.A. (Hons), CELTA

From England

With us since July, 2013

My name's Wayne and I've been living in Hong Kong since May 2013. I love the vibe of a big city and Hong Kong definitely does not disappoint. It's not only about the crowded streets, flashing neon signs and skyscrapers though – I'm also a fan of the beautiful natural scenery and wildlife to be found on the outlying islands and in the New Territories.

After leaving Russia, where I taught until 2009, I discovered the wonder of Asian cuisine and so living here is a dream come true for my taste buds! I like the fact that Hong Kong people are hard-working and conscientious but also incredibly well-mannered and modern, which makes teaching classes here a stimulating and rewarding experience.

Thomas Tucker

B.Sc, Cert TESOL

From United States

With us since July, 2013

My name is Tom, I have been living in Hong Kong since April 2012. I have taught English at various levels from summer bridging courses to team building.  The students are always so motivated and eager to learn. I truly enjoy teaching in Hong Kong.

I am an avid outdoorsman from trail running, hiking and competitive trail racing. Hong Kong’s beautiful country sides and challenging terrain make being an outdoorsman a true joy.

I still have much to learn about my new adopted home “Hong Kong”.  I found by talking to my friends, acquaintances, colleagues and neighbors that Hong Kong has truly remarkable people.  There is always something I can learn from them.  I am very excited and eager for my future in Hong Kong.
